Frequently Asked Questions

Question:How long should an auto transport take on average?

Answer:East Coast to West Coast approximately 7-14 days. Midwest to East Coast approximately 5-8 days. South to North approximately 5-8 days. All shipping times are estimates. Actual shipping times may vary depending on many factors, including weather conditions, mechanical failure, acts of God, etc. Discuss exact pickup and delivery times with your carrier service.

Question:Why can't I ship personal belongings inside my vehicle?

Answer:Auto carriers do not provide insurance for household goods placed in vehicles during transport. Some carriers will charge an additional fee to carry a few items, but this would be up to the consumer after talking directly with the carrier service.

Question:How does a pick up window work?

Answer:A pickup window refers to the time surrounding your preferred pickup date. For example, some shippers may have a 14 day window - reserving the right to pick up your vehicle between 7 days before and 7 days after your preferred pickup date. Other carriers may have a 1-3 day pickup window. The difference is usually tied directly to price. Beware of lower priced carriers who do not specify their pickup and delivery dates. You may receive a low price, however you may not see your vehicle for weeks.

Question:What do I need to know regarding vehicle insurance during transport?

Answer:We recommend that you contact your personal insurance agent to discuss what, if any, coverage is available for your vehicle while it is in transit. Most carriers hold $1 million combined single limit insurance and $250,000 per incident. This insurance covers any damage done to your vehicle while being transported.

Question:Why does a truck (SUV) shipment cost more than a regular sedan?

Answer:Shipments are based on the weight and size of the vehicle. A large SUV is heavier and longer than a car and requires one and a half spaces on a carrier's truck. The price is adjusted accordingly.

Question:What is an 'auto transport broker'?

Answer:Brokers are licensed by the Department of Transportation and are required to provide licensed, bonded and insured auto carriers for their customers. Brokers are also required to carry a $10,000 bond and provide safe and reliable transport for your vehicle.

Question:How do I pay for my vehicle transport?

Answer:A deposit is accepted at the time of scheduling your vehicle. This can be paid by credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express, Discovery), debit cards, PayPal, money order or cashier's check. No personal checks will be accepted. The balance is due and payable to the auto carrier when the vehicle is delivered to the destination. Most carriers only accept cash or cashier's check but this should be discussed with the individual carrier before transportation of your vehicle.

Question:What happens after I book my order?

Answer:You will receive confirmation via phone/fax/email, which will include your auto carrier contact information. You will receive a call from your auto carrier 8-24 hours in advance of your pickup date. The driver will arrive, inspect the vehicle with you and load it on the truck. At this time, you or your designee, will sign off as to the condition of the vehicle on a Bill of Lading. The reverse happens at the delivery location. The carrier calls you in advance, you or your designee will inspect the vehicle, noting any damage on the Bill of Lading, sign off and take delivery.

Question:What should a consumer do if their vehicle arrives with damage?

Answer:The first thing you should do is make sure the driver understands that the damage is new and was not on the original Bill of Lading. Any damage should be clearly marked and noted on the Bill of Lading and then signed for by the driver. Upon completion of delivery, a call should be placed to your carrier and broker to inform them of the damage.

Question:What does 'door to door' sevice mean and is there any reason my vehicle won't be delivered as such?

Answer:Our service is door-to-door, which means that your vehicle remains on the same truck from pickup through delivery. Some trucks are extremely large and may not be able to come directly to your door. In that case, the driver will contact you for directions to meet at the nearest large parking lot, i.e., shopping center, gas station, etc. to be able to safely load/unload your vehicle.

Question:Do you have a money back guarantee?

Answer:Our entire staff works to ensure your vehicle is transported safely and on time. We offer a 100% money back guarantee if we cannot dispatch your order within 14 business days (most brokers require 30 days). Our prices are designed to attract the most reputable auto carriers.

Question:Can you get me a better price if I can be flexible on my pick up date?

Answer:Usually, yes. The larger the pickup/delivery window, the better are the chances of finding an auto carrier for less money. For example, if we have 30 days in which to dispatch your order (instead of 3 days) we are able to post your "job" at a discounted price to the truckers. Carriers will often transport a car for less money if they have some flexibility with regard to pickup and delivery times.
